What are verified badges on Instagram and how to activate them

If you use Instagram regularly, it is very likely that you follow profiles and / or accounts of other users that have a blue icon just to the right of their profile name, with a positive verification icon. This is known as a verified badge .

And the verified badge is characterized by being the confirmation that that particular account really belongs to the person it should be. But beware, since it is not possible for any user to have this verified icon.

As indicated by the social network itself, in order to request a verified badge, it is necessary to be a celebrity, a recognized public figure or a brand , and also comply with a series of requirements established by it.

For this reason, it is common to find verified badges only on authentic accounts of public figures, celebrities or global brands and companies of recognized importance.

What is a verified badge?

Also known simply as a blue check mark or as a verification label , the popular verified badge consists of the recognition, by Instagram, that this account belongs officially and reliably to that public figure, celebrity, company or brand.

The purpose is to avoid identity theft , which is why it is only a functionality expressly reserved for public figures, celebrities and global brands.

The platform offers a verification program for influencer accounts or accounts that represent well-known brands where there is, in fact, a high probability that the account could be impersonated. This helps ensure that community users are dealing with real people they want to follow, or authentic brands.

This functionality was launched for the first time in August 2018. In this way, for those who have the verified tag, it basically means that the social network has confirmed that the profile truly and truly belongs to that person .

How to request and activate a verified badge?

When someone makes a request, the platform takes into account a variety of factors and elements in order to determine whether or not they truly grant that verification request.

In this sense, one of the main factors taken into account is whether or not there is a high probability that that particular account may be impersonated . And that, in addition, that the applicant is a celebrity, influential person, public figure or global brand.

To start the application process, we must log in to the account for which we are going to apply. Then, click on the icon that takes us to our profile, or on the profile photo that we will find in the lower right part of the screen.

Now we click on the menu that we will find in the upper right part, and then we access Settings . Then click on Account and then on Request verification .

Now, we must write our full name and provide the necessary identification document (for example, an official identification document with photo).

Once Instagram has reviewed the request, you will receive a notification indicating whether or not that account has been verified. In case it has been rejected, it will be possible to send a new one after 30 days.
