The United States proposes a global corporate income tax of a minimum of 15%

The figure is lower than the 21% that the Treasury Department initially managed and that the OECD planned to reach.

The Joe Biden government proposed to its OECD partners a rate of "at least" 15% on corporate income of multinationals worldwide, the US Treasury Department said in a statement on Thursday.

The figure is lower than the 21% that the Treasury initially managed and that the OECD planned to achieve. In the statement, it is noted that 15% is "one floor" and that the negotiations will continue with the objective of being "ambitious" and "increasing this rate."

Washington promoted negotiations in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to implement taxes on the profits of multinationals that are harmonized between different countries.

The OECD expects a global agreement in principle for the G20 on Finance on July 9 and 10, to specify the mechanism at a final meeting in October.

By way of reference, in Ireland there is a rate of 12.5%, while France, Germany and the European Parliament are in favor of 21%, the figure initially managed by Washington.

The goal of these countries is to increase the contribution of the technology giants to the public coffers. They point to escaping from paying taxes thanks to the tax differences between countries.
