Businessmen from southwestern Colombia ask for new deadlines for taxes

Three unions from Cauca, Nariño and Valle del Cauca are asking the Government to give them financial support to pay their payroll, as well as financial support programs due to the losses that, they say, they have registered due to the national strike.

Companies from the southwest of Colombia asked the Government on Friday to take a series of measures to alleviate the impacts that the national strike has had on companies in this region, which has been one of the companies that has registered the most violence and blockades in the framework of the mobilizations that started on April 28.

The communication is signed by the Cauca Union and Business Council, the Nariño Inter-union Committee and the Valle del Cauca Inter-union Business Committee. Dozens of companies are grouped under the three organizations, in addition to other production unions in that region, such as Acopi, Acodres or Andi, to name a few.

The unions make requests in three fields: tax, financial and economic support for the payment of payroll and social security.

In tax matters, the unions are asking the Government for three things: that they give them until December 15 for “the payment and presentation of the companies’ national tax obligations (VAT, assets and withholding at source); that the sanctions for these concepts be suspended until that date and that exogenous information can be presented until September 30 of this year.

In financing, the unions are asking that “a special program of accompaniment be implemented for debtors of the financial system, such as the one established in the framework of the pandemic, which allows financial entities to address the situation, without affecting the conditions of payment. access to credit for companies ”.

And, finally, they are asking the Government to give them additional financial support for the payment of payroll and social security obligations for three months “while the operation of the companies in the region is reestablished.”

Likewise, this week the Valle del Cauca section of Fenalco published the results of a survey on the situation of this sector in Cali. Among its results is that Cali merchants have lost $ 1.2 trillion on account of the blockades generated by the national strike. More than 95% of the entrepreneurs of this line in the city have stated that their sales have fallen 80% over their original volume, on average.

Only the Inter-union and Business Committee of Valle del Cauca estimates that each day of unemployment adds more than $ 100,000 million in losses for the companies in this department.

It is also worth remembering that Cali was one of the worst hit cities in terms of poverty growth. According to the most recent data on monetary poverty revealed by DANE, this indicator went from 21.9% to 36.6% between 2019 and 2020 in Cali.
