In Search of the Equations of Politics

A team of experts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) is developing research work to define mathematical models based on differential equations that allow predicting how ideologies and trends of thought will evolve in society.

According to Rafael Villanueva, researcher at the UPV's Institute of Multidisciplinary Mathematics, differential equations can help to find out, for example, what possibilities exist for a person who has a certain ideology to change their way of thinking and move towards other positions , even radical or certain fanatical behaviors ",

Each of the equations developed by Villanueva and his collaborators encompasses a series of parameters that influence the evolution of the ideology of social groups and that consider aspects such as advertising , propaganda , media coverage , the leadership of a type of message, etc. ? By studying the changes in the values of the parameters, we can predict the various ideological scenarios of a society in the near future, "says the researcher.
