A huge asteroid will 'brush' the Earth on Halloween

A giant-size asteroid recently discovered by NASA will pass very close to Earth on Halloween , October 31, and according to the US space agency, it will represent the closest passage of an object since July 2006.

Astronomers have reported that it will be possible to observe the transit of the asteroid through the Earth using telescopes, since it will pass about 500,000 kilometers from our planet (1.3 times the distance from the Moon) and its brightness will be too weak to be captured by naked eye.

The asteroid, located just a week ago with the Pan-Starrs I telescope in Hawaii, has been baptized as 2015 TB145, measures between 210 and 610 meters in diameter and will travel at 126,000 kilometers per hour through the constellation of Orion with its point closest approach to Earth at 15.14 GMT on October 31, 2015.

According to NASA, this event will probably not happen again until 2027 : ” This is the closest approximation of a known object so large that in August 2027 it will approach just 1 lunar distance.” That is, in a dozen years, the distance that this huge asteroid will pass will be shortened a little more. At the moment, astronomy fans have a date on All Hallows’ Eve or Halloween.
