This work is part of the Pacífico 1 connection project, which in turn belongs to a set of highways that seek to reduce travel times between the ports of Buenaventura, the Eje Cafetero and Medellín. The infrastructure has an investment of $ 832,618 million.
The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) reported this Friday that the excavations of the right carriageway of the Amagá tunnel, which is part of the 4G Pacific Connection 1 project, which seeks an alternate connection between the Eje Cafetero, Medellín and the ports of Buenaventura, have been completed.
Last April the excavation of the left road of the work had already completed, a milestone that was achieved 16 months ahead of schedule. The general investment of the work is $ 832,618 million, according to the Agency’s accounts.

The Amagá tunnel has a length of 3.6 kilometers and, according to the ANI, it will benefit the inhabitants of the municipalities of Caldas, Amagá, Titiribí and Venecia and in general the entire Southwest of Antioquia.
Pacifico 1 is part of the so-called Prosperity Highways, which are divided into Pacifico 1, 2 and 3. The first of these work units today has a work progress of 68%, which represents a healthy rhythm if you have taking into account that for August 2018 it barely registered a work fulfillment of 8%. In total, this section of the Highways is 50.10 kilometers long and has an investment of $ 2.6 billion.
The Pacific Connection 1 project goes from Ancón Sur (Sabaneta) to Bolombolo (Venice) in Antioquia, and once it is ready, it will be an exit from Medellín to the Cauca river valley. The work includes 49 kilometers of dual carriageway (31 new and 18 under maintenance), two double tunnels, 56 bridges and three uneven interchanges, and required an investment of $ 2.66 billion.
Pacífico 1 will connect with the 98-kilometer Pacific Connection 2 project (Bolombolo- La Pintada-Primavera), which, in turn, will join with Pacífico Connection 3 (La Pintada-La Felisa-Irra-La Manuela, Tres Puertas-La Virnigia), 146 kilometers.
In sum, these roads make up the so-called Highways for Prosperity, the largest fourth-generation concession project (4G) of all, with more than 1,000 kilometers in length and an investment that exceeds $ 13 billion, and whose purpose is to interconnect the production centers in the South and North of the country with Antioquia, Valle del Cauca and the Eje Cafetero, which means access to river navigation and the port of Buenaventura with savings of up to 30% in costs and travel times.
