The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) space probe has captured an impressive image of Mars: the dramatic impact of a rock creating a new crater .
The image shows a crater of about 30 meters in diameter and in which even the radial marks, of light and dark tones, produced by the material ejected by the rock on impact, can be seen. Few craters are usually as big as this one. The average is usually 3.9 meters in diameter.
NASA scientists say that the impact and the resulting explosion have been able to launch rock debris up to 15 kilometers away .
The crater appears in blue color by the filters used to capture the image, and due to the sweep of the impact, the area is shown without the typical reddish dust that covers most of the surface of Mars, making the snapshot much more impressive .
This spectacular image of the Martian crater was captured by the MRO HiRISE (High Resolution Imaging Scientific Experiment) camera on November 19, 2013 and the exact location of the new crater on Mars is 3.7 degrees North latitude and 53.4 degrees. degrees of East longitude, according to NASA.
