This is how insects copulated in the Jurassic

Researchers from the Capital Normal University of China have found the oldest fossil of a copulation between insects , dating from the Middle Jurassic (160 million years ago). The lucky couple that managed to eternalize the moment of sexual ecstasy belongs to the Cercopoideas species and was found in the northeast of the Asian country.

The fossil, which is in perfect condition, shows the static belly-to-belly mating position, with the male sexual appendix embedded in the female's body structure. This evidence reveals that the mating position of this species has remained unchanged despite the passage of geological ages.

Cercopoids are a tiny insect species that hops between plants like small frogs. Their nymph state is characteristic, since they develop inside a viscous and spongy substance called bat.

The Hallazo is especially valuable given the scarcity of discovered fossils of insectivorous copulae and the evolutionary information they provide.
