Gasnova warns of problems in the distribution of propane gas cylinders

This essential household public service is not only used in homes to cook food but also in hospitals, agricultural production, bakeries, restaurants and crematoriums, said Alejandro Martínez.

The supply of LPG is seriously affected, harming the inhabitants of Nariño, Antioquia, Cauca, Putumayo, Caquetá, Huila and Valle del Cauca. The crisis in the distribution of fuel is caused by blockades that prevent the passage of vehicles that distribute gas.

On May 20 and 23, supply corridors were opened in Nariño that made it possible to distribute the product consumed by users in this region for three days.

The president of the Colombian Association of LPG – Gasnova, Alejandro Martínez, said that “the distribution will be done in a traditional way in trucks with gas cylinders and bulk tanks, during the week between May 24 and 28”.

Nariño is the third department with the highest LPG consumption in Colombia, with 9% of national consumption and a coverage of 375,412 households, that is, a population of over 1.2 million, says the union.

On the other hand, in the departments of southwestern Colombia, some 3.4 million people have been affected.

Meanwhile, in Antioquia the situation is critical, given that LPG inventories are coming to an end. According to Gasnova, Antioquia ranks first in consumption of this public service in Colombia, with 18% of the national total and coverage of 758,729 homes for 2.4 million people.

This essential home public service is not only used in homes to cook food but also in hospitals, agricultural production, bakeries, restaurants and crematorium ovens among other industrial and commercial uses, the union leader said.

“We are working hand in hand with the Minister of Mines and Energy so that our users can be served as soon as possible,” said the union leader.

Alejandro Martínez de facto censured the roads, and made a call to those who are preventing the passage of fuels, such as LPG. “These blockades are illegal and are affecting millions of Colombians in their fundamental rights,” he said.
