Astronomers from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) have found thatdwarf planet 2007 OR10, discovered four years ago andbaptized with the nickname “Snow White”, it’s acold world covered at least half of its surface by icy waterwhich was produced by ancient volcanoes that were once active. These geological formations emitted half-melted snow instead of lava.
The study also indicates that the planet iscovered by a thin film of methane. This gas is all that remains of the atmosphere of the celestial object, since little by little, its gases are filtered into outer space, leaving the surface of the object bare and exposed.
Snow Whiteis hefifth dwarf planet discovered in our solar system, and is half the diameter of Pluto. Since it was an icy planet they gave it this nickname assuming it would be white. But it actually shows a soft pink color due to methane. ? We see the image of what was once a less active world with volcanoes of water and atmosphere, and that it is now a frozen, dead planet with a slowly sliding atmosphere, “explains astronomer Mike Brown, co-author of a paper. that will appear in the next issue of the magazineAstrophysical Journal Letters.
Initially, experts proposed that the object was actually a large chunk of debris ejected from the dwarf planet Haumea, after a violent collision. However, subsequent observations showed that Snow White had formed independently.
