Justice is not blind. And less the juries. According to a study conducted at Cornell University (New York, USA) last year and published in Behavioral Sciences & The Law , the beauty of the accused influences both the verdict and the sentence . Specifically, unattractive defendants receive 22% more convictions than physically attractive defendants. In addition, the less fortunate are also sentenced to longer sentences, an average of 22 more months in prison.
On the other hand, a recent article published in the specialized magazine American Journal of Forensic Psychology showed that the number of guilty verdicts is reduced when the defendant wears glasses , since apparently the jury unconsciously considers him more intelligent.
