Munich – The fact that summer is arriving in Germany with great strides is also noticeable these days from the increased temperatures. More and more people are drawn to the outside world. The corona situation has now eased significantly.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) had to report a slight increase in the seven-day incidence for the first time in days on Tuesday morning (June 1). With 35.2 new infections registered per 100,000 inhabitants within one week, the incidence was only slightly above the value of the previous day (35.1). An increase in the incidence was last reported from May 9th to May 10th, and since then it has fallen steadily.

Corona in Germany: Spahn optimistic – “It can be a good summer”

The current increase is not unusual, reassured RKI President Lothar Wieler. Also due to possible late reports of corona cases by the health authorities. Overall, the situation is much better, Wieler said. This is also confirmed by a look at the numbers from the previous week, when the incidence value was 58.4. Meanwhile, the RKI downgraded the corona risk situation in Germany from “very high” to “high”.

“It can be a good summer,” said Health Minister Jens Spahn on Tuesday at the weekly PK on the current corona situation. “We worked hard for this – through a lot of waiver, through testing and vaccination.”

Corona in Germany: Some federal states allow indoor catering again

The positive trend has already allowed some federal states to take further easing measures. In Brandenburg, catering establishments will be allowed to open indoor spaces again without a test requirement in addition to the outdoor area. One day later, Berlin also wants to allow this. In Hamburg, the approach is more cautious: From the weekend, restaurants are allowed to serve their guests inside, but they need a negative test.

Meanwhile, the vaccination campaign in Germany is now going according to plan. According to Health Minister Spahn, 80 to 90 percent of those willing to be vaccinated could be offered a vaccination by mid-July. (kh)
