Vienna – The Schönbrunn Zoo in Vienna has lost its oldest inhabitant. The Seychelles giant tortoise named Schurli died around the age of 130, the zoo reported Tuesday.
"Many zoo visitors knew him almost forever," said zoologist Anton Weissenbacher. Schurli lived in the former imperial zoo since 1953. At the European Football Championship in 2016, Schurli was used as a football oracle. Despite his old age, he still took part in a study a few years ago: he was able to immediately remember a task he had learned nine years earlier. dpa
