Corona therapy: Frankfurt researchers find new points of attack

A study from Frankfurt could result in completely new methods for the treatment of corona diseases.

Frankfurt – A research team from Frankfurt am Main has demonstrated new findings for possible corona * therapies. As the researchers at Goethe University report in their study, sections of the genetic material of Sars-CoV-2 were discovered that hardly change at all due to mutations.

The team around scientist Harald Schwalbe refer in the analysis to molecules that can dock on the said unchangeable corona sequences of the genome. Specifically, it is about 15 sections of the RNA strand of coronaviruses, which can apparently be found en masse in a similar form and, according to the research team, have regulatory functions. The new findings of the scientists at the Goethe University in Frankfurt could help curb the spread of pathogens in cells with the help of drugs.

In the study, a total of 768 molecules from a database were tested for their reaction in the corresponding RNA strand. The analysis finally showed that 69 of the molecules bound to a specific sequence in 13 of the 15 segments. According to the research team, these areas are suitable as points of attack for possible therapies for those affected by corona, as also reported by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. However, further studies are needed to research the field further.
