Starting next February, the length of tweets that include URLs or links will be reduced to 118 characters , which represents a loss of two characters of text per message compared to the current capacity of the microblogging platform. This has been announced by the Twitter developers on their blog, while explaining that the adjustment is due to some changes that are coming in the structure of the platform’s automatic t.co link shorteners. According to the company, the new links will go from occupying 20 characters to needing 22 or 23 for each link.
The change will not occur until February 20, 2013.
