The62% of people who watch television in the world use social networks at the same time, according to a study carried out by the Ericsson company. The figure implies an increase of 18% compared to last year’s figures. The document indicates that more women show this behavior (69%). However, swith men who most frequently comment with other users what they are seeing on the screen, while women tend to read what others publish or talk about other topics.
The trend towards the simultaneous use of social networks and television is due to the fact that while we are watching a program, a movie or a game,we need to create a sense of communityand position ourselves before others. In addition to being curious about the opinion of others, we look for additional information that television does not show us and we interact with the content, with the possibility of analyzing or discussing the subject. To a large extent, this habit is possible thanks to mobile devices since, according to the study, 67% of people who watch television and access Twitter and Facebook at the same time use a smartphone, a tablet or a laptop.
To this is added thatmore than 80% of viewers claim to surf the Internet while watching television. The figure even exceeds the percentage of people who eat with the television on.
The study data came from users in the United States, United Kingdom, China, Spain, Taiwan, Sweden, Brazil, South Korea, Mexico, Chile, Italy, and Germany.
