The vaccination pace in Germany is slowing down. A lottery wants to help with a special offer for vaccinated people. There are more than a million euros. But there is also criticism.
Dortmund – The vaccination with its protection against the coronavirus * is apparently not enough of an incentive. More and more companies all over the world entice with prizes and gifts. Now the first privately organized vaccination lottery is starting in Germany, as RUHR24 * found out.

Impflotterie starts in Germany: Lottery gives away two million free tips
“We would like to do our part to ensure that every vaccination pays off even more – with a bit of luck even in cash,” says the Lotto24 website.
The company is giving away two million free tips to people who are vaccinated against the coronavirus by September 30th or to those who cannot be vaccinated.
Vaccination lottery started: Vaccinated people can hope for a profit of 1.15 million
“With the main prize of the ‘Freiheit +’ social lottery, you can win a monthly payment of 5,000 euros for 15 years and an instant win of 250,000 euros,” explains the lottery. So there is a total profit of 1.15 million euros. In contrast to Lotto 6aus49 *, seven numbers out of 35 are typed here. According to the lottery, the chance of winning the main prize should be 21 times higher than with 6aus49.
Those who have been vaccinated and those who cannot be vaccinated can pick up a free tip from the lottery. This allows you to play one field for free, but you also have the option of buying additional fields. The vaccination certificate or proof that the participant cannot be vaccinated must only be provided in the event of a win.
Corona vaccination lottery under fire: better focus on low-threshold offers and persuasion
Even if it is meant as a funny campaign, the vaccination lottery is viewed quite critically in Germany. “Vaccination is our way out of the pandemic, no question about it. But now everything that can be offered as an incentive for the spades is difficult, “said the drug commissioner of the federal government, Daniela Ludwig, to the Funke newspapers . They prefer to rely on low-threshold offers and persuasion.
In addition, the new Corona rules could do the rest. Because anyone who remains unvaccinated against the coronavirus has a hard time in public life *. If the incidence is over 35, unvaccinated people will have to test themselves with a rapid or PCR test, depending on the location (more news on the coronavirus in North Rhine-Westphalia * at RUHR24).
Corona vaccination lottery: the risk of addiction is low – “nobody is addicted to vaccination lottery”
Verena Küpperbusch, addiction expert for gambling addiction in North Rhine-Westphalia, is also skeptical of the vaccination lottery: “I find it questionable if an offer with a certain addictive potential is linked to the vaccination,” she told the Funke newspapers.
Nevertheless, they consider the risk of addiction to be low with a one-time bye and a draw per week. “Nobody will become addicted to the vaccine as a result,” emphasizes Tobias Hayer, an addiction researcher from Bremen.

Incentives for the corona vaccination: hunting licenses, cruises and full scholarships
Meanwhile, in other countries vaccination lotteries or other material incentives after vaccination are quite common. In addition to donuts, cheesecakes and hot dogs in the USA, after the corona vaccination, there are sometimes even securities or financial incentives * from employers. For example, Lidl in the USA offered its employees a $ 200 bonus for a corona vaccination *.
There were also vaccination lotteries in the USA, as is now the case in Germany. Residents of the state of Ohio could win one million euros in a weekly lottery. In New York, winnings of up to five million dollars were at stake.
Meanwhile, the state is turning more to the parents of 12 to 17 year olds with profits and is giving away 50 full scholarships to a college or university in the state. In the USA, cars, hunting licenses, hunting rifles and cruises were also raffled among vaccinated people.

Corona vaccination pace is slowing in Germany: 58.5 percent completely vaccinated
58.5 percent of the German population are currently fully vaccinated against the corona virus (as of August 27). According to the Federal Ministry of Health, the pace of vaccination continues to decrease. On Thursday (August 26th) a total of 284,120 vaccine doses were administered in Germany. In June there were 1,425,682 cans on a peak day.
It is questionable whether vaccination lotteries or free sausages are a real incentive to get vaccinated against the coronavirus. Or whether it is not much more the protection against the dangerous virus or the restrictions for the unvaccinated. * RUHR24 is part of the IPPEN.MEDIA editorial network
