Few things are as unimportant as “True Crime”. Jan Böhmermann devotes an entire episode of ZDF Magazin Royale to the gaffing. The TV review.
As a rule, an episode of ZDF Magazin Royale follows a clearly structured schedule. At the beginning there are shallow jokes, followed by lukewarm nonsense in the first third of the broadcast and then, yes, then it becomes relevant. Then it is uncovered, extensive research is presented or simply a grievance is prominently summarized, which otherwise, regardless of the explosive power inherent in it, ekes out a largely unnoticed existence. Not this time.
Because on this evening on ZDF it seems a bit as if Böhmermann’s editorial team has to dangle its feet a little after the powerful highlight of the previous week when the AfD-related Erasmus Foundation was neatly filleted in ZDF Magazin Royale. Just make a topic that nobody really cares about. Breathe easily through your pants, as olle Stromberg would have put it.
Said and done. Relevant topics such as the embarrassing resistance of antiquated police unions against the legalization of cannabis or the at least disconcerting stereotypes (or, as pretty much Twitter agreed: racist), but in any case senile regulars’ slogans by Elke Heidenreich, Jan Böhmermann was less than five minutes airtime value. He even wiped the Stone Age unions off the table with just one punchline: “A huge shock for the smallest police union in the world, Rainer Wendt: If cannabis is legalized now, will shit babbling be forbidden?”

Here is the answer: no. Because when cannabis is finally legalized, it will lead to the long overdue decriminalization of peaceful stoners, to an abrupt end to the trading of stretched, unhealthy goods and to a tax blessing for the treasury. In other words, more money could be invested in work, education, and pensions. A real magic tax. But what that doesn’t lead to: talking less shit. From experience: quite the opposite. So Rainer Wendt can breathe a sigh of relief.
