Alsea appoints Fernando González Somoza as its general manager

Alsea, the restaurant operator that owns brands like Starbucks and Domino’s Pizza, has a new CEO. Fernando González Somoza occupies this seat as of this month, while Alberto Torrado continues as executive president of the company.

This succession process began on June 1 of last year, when González joined as deputy general manager. After completing the process of cultural and operational immersion in all Alsea’s brands and geographies, he formally assumes the General Management of Alsea as of January 2022, the company reported in a statement sent to the Mexican Stock Exchange.

“I am totally convinced that Fernando’s experience, his global business vision and solid perspective of technological innovation will contribute substantially to Alsea’s sustainable growth. He shares our philosophy, which will allow us to continue building a solid future for the company and contribute to the development of the countries where we operate,” said Alberto Torrado, quoted in the statement.

Of Spanish nationality, González has more than 30 years of experience in the retail sector, 13 of them as CEO. Before joining Alsea, González spent the last two years in Colombia, where he held this position at Koba, a company with 14,000 employees.

He also held various management positions in the Spanish company Distribuidora Internacional de Alimentos (DIA Group), where he served as general manager in Turkey and China. He closed his cycle in Grupo DIA to join Grupo Soriana, as part of an initiative to transform the company in terms of corporate development and real estate management.
