América Móvil will invest 8,000 million pesos with Claro TV if it obtains the concession

América Móvil will promote an investment plan of 8,000 million pesos to implement its restricted television business, as long as the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) grants it its long-awaited concession to enter this segment.

“We could enter with an investment of 8,000 million pesos in fiber optic expansion, in areas where there are none today, and available so that any participant can use it,” said Carlos Slim Domit, president of the board of directors of América Móvil. .

Slim Domit stated that his entry into restricted television with Claro TV will not affect the competition, on the contrary, he assured, it will benefit it and will cause consumers to have more options at a more affordable price.

In a press conference, which took place after United States officials and regulators yesterday expressed their concern about the implications that Claro TV’s entry into the sector would have for competition, Slim Domit said that in the coming days the company will seek have a dialogue with these authorities.

“We do not understand what your concern is. We will go to find them to talk with them. What worries them in Mexico, in the United States, is what they are promoting, that there is a full convergence in all services,” said the manager.

For a decade now, América Móvil has been waiting for the IFT to grant it the concession to enter the pay television segment. Last year it reissued a request to offer this service, however, its concession as a telecommunications operator prevents it from accessing this item.

If approved, the entry of América Móvil into the sector would have important implications for companies such as the US AT&T, which operates in Mexico, or Grupo Televisa.
