AMLO "uncovers" Pablo Daniel Taddei as the new director of LitioMx

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that Pablo Daniel Taddei Arriola , a young man from Sonora who is studying for a doctorate at Harvard University, will be the head of the state agency Litio para México or LitioMx.

Taddei Arriola, an Industrial and Systems Engineer graduated from the University of Sonora, began a doctorate in Environmental Health at Harvard University in the United States in September 2018. Before, between 2015 and 2017, he did a master’s degree in Sustainable Systems at the University of Michigan, according to information from the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES).

Taddei Arriola, who had one of his first jobs at the Tico Electronics maquiladora company, has worked on projects related to solar thermal energy, photovoltaic energy, energy balance and energy prospects for the state of Sonora. He also taught the subject Introduction to Renewable Energies at the University of Sonora.

On August 23, the federal government published a decree announcing the creation of the new state agency Litio for Mexico, whose acronym is LitioMx. The document establishes that the head of the state company will be appointed and removed by the president at the proposal of the head of the Energy Secretariat, a position now held by Rocío Nahle.

The president chose as head of the new state the son of an already close official: Jorge Taddei Bringas, the delegate of the Secretary of Welfare in Sonora.

This morning the president explained that the intention of this decision is to create a renewable energy pole in the state – a solar park is also being built in Sonora – and promote it within the automotive industry.

“We are developing a plan for Sonora to become a state for the generation of renewable, clean energy and also for the production of lithium batteries to boost the automotive industry in Sonora,” he said this morning.

The “uncovering” of Taddei Arriola as general director of LitioMx, a state agency responsible for managing the entire lithium value chain in the country, occurs a day after the president said that LitioMx’s headquarters will be in Sonora.

A state government is not necessarily a bad idea, but the results will depend on the flexibility of the federal government and not making decisions that favor political issues, says the agency.

AMLO recognizes that he will need private initiative to start LitioMx

Just a few days after creating the state body, the president has recognized that the state would not have the financial or technical resources for his project.

Last Minute: AMLO chooses Sonora as the headquarters of the new state body LitioMx

The new headquarters seems like a natural choice, since the largest lithium reserve that has been identified in the country so far is located in the northern state.

Bolivia, the closest example to what the Mexican government is trying to do, accumulates around a decade trying to produce the mineral with very few results.

The great promise of lithium extraction is in Sonora and the concession belongs to the Chinese Ganfeng Lithium. Beyond that, the country is not certain about deposits that could be viable.
