The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken , will visit Mexico in September, and if he wishes to talk about the differences in energy matters within the framework of the Treaty between the United States, Mexico and Canada ( TMEC ), he will be welcome, said the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador in morning conference this Tuesday.
Mexico faces differences with the United States and Canada due to the energy policy established by the current federal government. Yesterday, Tuesday, the consultations began.
“We are going to receive him, if he comes we receive him, the Secretary of State of the United States is welcome. I think so, we consider that it is not a technical issue, but a political one. We have very good economic relations, there is no problem,” said the Mexican president.
After the visit of the Mexican president to the United States in July, the United States and Canada made a formal request for consultations on Mexican energy policy, which gives priority to Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) over private companies. .
“If the Secretary of State comes to that, he will be well received, the truth is that relations are good, we also understand that there are elections in November, in the US and as usually happens in the world, on the eve of elections there are excesses, but we are not going to allow Mexicans to be offended by countrymen,” the president commented.
According to Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard, Antony Blinken will come to Mexico for the High-Level Economic Dialogue, which is between September 11 and 12.
