Just two weeks ago, an earthquake caused great damage on the holiday island of Crete, and one person died. Now there was a seaquake.
Heraklion – A 6.4 magnitude earthquake shook the Greek island of Crete on Tuesday morning. In the port city of Heraklion and many other places, people fled to the streets in a panic. There were initially no reports of injuries or even deaths.
Eyewitnesses reported on social media that the earth shook for at least 29 seconds. According to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, the epicenter was a good 20 kilometers east of the island and around eight kilometers below the sea floor.
Just two weeks ago, a strong 5.8 magnitude earthquake near the city of Heraklion killed a person, and numerous houses collapsed. dpa
