Bimbo temporarily suspends operations in Ukraine

Mexican baking giant Grupo Bimbo said on Sunday it had temporarily suspended operations at its Ukraine plant following the Russian military deployment.

The firm, with a presence in that nation through its Bimbo QSR unit, said that the cessation of activities at its factory in the city of Dnipro occurred four days ago, seeking to guarantee the safety of its 150 workers, all of them Ukrainians.

"For Grupo Bimbo, the highest priority is the safety of each one of its collaborators in all its operations in the world, so everything within the company's reach will be done to support the bakery teams in Ukraine," it added in a statement.

Grupo Bimbo BIMBOA.MX, with businesses in more than 33 countries, also has a presence in Russia.

On Friday, Mexican corn flour and tortilla producer Gruma GRUMAB.MX also announced the suspension of operations at its plant in Ukraine.
