Videos of the crash of the cable car in northern Italy cause indignation. Professionals turn to the media and users of social media with an appeal.
Rome – After the cable car crash in northern Italy, the horror is still deep. The accident claimed 14 lives. All the more, several media outlets are now causing outrage. Because they broadcast videos of the fatal gondola crash on Monte Mottarone.
Almost a month ago, the gondola with 15 people crashed on the mountain west of Lake Maggiore. 14 people lost their lives when the cabin crashed on a wooded slope. Only a young Israeli boy survived the cable car accident. The pulling rope broke for reasons that remained unexplained. Actually, at that moment, the emergency brakes on the suspension cable should have applied. However, these had been blocked with brackets because, according to media reports, they had caused operational disruptions. An employee of the cable car is under domestic arrest. The investigation into the cause is still ongoing.
Cable car accident in Italy: Experts criticize video broadcast
Several experts have now called for the video material not to be distributed. “You can only aggravate the pain of the families of the victims and their relatives,” said the Italian data protection authority on Thursday in Rome. Their appeal was directed at the media and internet users on social networks.
The pictures, which according to the authority show the last moments before the accident on Whitsunday, did little to reconstruct the case, which had already been widely discussed in the media, the statement said. The videos were broadcast exclusively by an Italian TV station. It could be seen how a screen was filmed on which the videos from the surveillance camera in the mountain station from the day of the accident were running.
