César Film Awards: historical film and rock opera as favorites

Adam Driver is considered the favorite for a César for Best Actor. But nothing has been decided yet.

Paris – The historical film “Lost Illusions” about a young poet is the front runner in the race for the French César Film Awards with 15 nominations. The drama by French director Xavier Giannoli (“Madame Marguerite or the Art of Wry Tones”) has been nominated in the top categories of Best Film and Best Director, among others, as the Académie des César reports on its website. The work is based on the epic novel “Lost Illusions” by Honoré de Balzac.

The winners of the French Film Awards will be officially announced on February 25th. The rock opera “Annette” by Leos Carax also has a good chance of winning a prize with 11 nominations. The main roles in the melodrama are played by Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver. Driver is also a favorite for the Best Actor trophy. Valérie Lemercier’s fictional biopic about Canadian pop singer Celine Dion “Aline” has received 10 nominations. dpa
