Colombian exports grew 56.3% in April 2021

The National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) reported this Monday that the country’s exports grew 56.3% in April 2021 compared to the same month in 2020, totaling US $ 2,914.7 million.

According to DANE, this behavior was mainly due to the 63.4% growth in foreign sales of fuels and extractive industry products , which accounted for 40.4% of total exports and consolidated US $ 1,178.8 million.

Even so, last April 10.6 million barrels of crude oil were sold abroad, which represented a drop of 36% compared to the same month in 2020.

Manufacturing sales in the fourth month of the year were US $ 701.6 million and grew 58.1%, compared to April 2020, while those of agricultural products, food and beverages totaled US $ 778.3 million and showed growth of 36.7%. This behavior was mainly explained by the increase in exports of unroasted coffee, husks and husks of coffee, which grew 59.9% .

According to DANE, the United States was the main destination for Colombian exports, with a 30% share of the total value exported. They were followed by Panama, Ecuador, China, Brazil, Spain and Turkey.

Between January and April 2021, Colombian exports were US $ 11,848.9 million and registered an increase of 11.1% , compared to the same period in 2020, the entity reported.

In that period, exports of fuels and products from the extractive industries were US $ 5,173.7 million and decreased by 2.2% compared to the same period in 2020. Sales of agricultural products, food and beverages were US $ 3,105.4 million and They grew 20.9%, while manufacturing amounted to US $ 2,622.9 million, an increase of 19.7%.

Procolombia highlighted the participation of non-mining sales in the country’s total exports, which represented 48.1% in the consolidated total exports and increased 21.3%, compared to the same period in 2020.

“The first four months of the year are a true reflection that the economic recovery is a reality. We see that sectors such as fashion, chemicals, agriculture and metalworking had positive variations of 20% to 32% in their exports, making it clear that the world wants to consume more and more products of Colombian origin. We will continue accompanying these sectors in their international sales so that they are an engine of growth and development for the country, as well as better possibilities for all ”, said Flavia Santoro, president of the entity.
