The US-Canadian singer has now carried out his threat and had all his music removed from the Spotify streaming platform. “I would like to thank my very large and supportive record company, Warner Brothers-Reprise Records, for supporting me in my decision to remove all of my music from Spotify,” the 76-year-old musician wrote on his website. In his statement, Young also said that Spotify had become “a site of potentially deadly disinformation about Covid.” And added: “Lies that are sold for money.”

Young had previously asked Spotify to remove the podcast by controversial US comedian Joe Rogan, whom he accuses of spreading false information about the corona virus (see initial report). Rogan is one of the most popular podcast hosts in the world. In 2021, he signed an estimated $100 million exclusive deal with Spotify.
