Berlin – The corona numbers in Germany fell slightly again on Tuesday (September 21). According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the seven-day incidence is 68.5. For comparison: the previous day the value was 71.0, a week ago it was 81.1. In total, the health authorities reported 4664 new corona infections * to the RKI within one day. This is also a significant decrease compared to the previous week, when 6325 new infections were reported.
Corona in Germany: Incidence is falling slightly
In contrast, the RKI reported a slight increase in the number of reported deaths. There were 81 deaths on Tuesday and 68 on the same day of the previous week. The number of Corona * patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was given by the RKI * on Monday (September 20) as 1.65. Last Friday (September 17th) the value was given as 1.89.
A weekly or monthly comparison is not possible due to the high number of late registrations. A nationwide threshold value from when the situation can be viewed critically is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences. The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.
Corona in Germany: Chairwoman of the Marburg Federation with criticism of “Freedom Day”
A so-called “Freedom Day” – an end date for all corona protective measures, as the head of the health insurance company Andreas Gassen recently called for – is still the subject of criticism despite the currently slightly falling numbers. The chairman of the Marburger Bund doctors’ union, Susanne Johna, warned in a conversation with the editorial network in Germany that such a step could result in more corona patients burdening the clinics.

“I don’t think it’s collegial to simply ignore such additional burdens because you’re tired of wearing a mask,” says Johna. “The vaccination rate * is far too low to lift measures such as the mask requirement indoors, for example,” she explained.
According to Johna, the corona situation in Germany cannot be compared to that of Great Britain
In addition, “Freedom Day” in Great Britain cannot be taken as an example for Germany. “There is a completely different starting situation there, not only because of the higher vaccination rate, but above all because of the significantly higher immunity in the population as a result of the past infection events,” says Johna. In England in particular, immunity was achieved by accepting a significantly higher death rate. Germany should not take this path, demanded the chairwoman of the Marburg Federation.
In addition to the Federal Government, the German Teachers’ Association and the Professional Association for Nursing Professions had previously spoken out against such a cut-off date regulation. (ph / dpa / afp) * Merkur.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
