Corona in Germany: Incidence is making a big leap and is not as high as it has been in five months

The 7-day incidence in Germany is skyrocketing. It hadn’t been so high in five months.

Berlin – For the first time since mid-May, the 7-day incidence exceeded the 90 mark in Germany. On that Friday morning, the nationwide incidence is 95.1. This comes from the data on the Covid-19 dashboard of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). For comparison: the previous day the value was 85.6, a week ago it was 68.7 (previous month: 65.0).

RKI reports 19,572 new corona infections

In the past 24 hours, 19,572 new corona infections have been recorded. A week ago there were 8,054 positive corona tests fewer. Another 116 deaths have been reported. The number of deaths since the beginning of the corona pandemic has risen to 94,991.

Corona in Germany – the incidence of hospitalization is increasing

The RKI gives the hospitalization incidence on Thursday at 2.45 (Wednesday 2.34). The value is considered an important value in the event of possible tightening of corona measures. With the indicator, however, it must be taken into account that hospital admissions are sometimes reported with delay. A nationwide threshold value from when the situation can be viewed critically is not provided for the incidence of hospitalization, among other things because of large regional differences. The previous high was around 15.5 around Christmas time.

As the RKI reported in its current weekly report on the pandemic on Thursday evening *, the corona numbers could grow dynamically in the coming period. “It is to be expected that the increase in the number of cases will accelerate in the further course of autumn and winter,” the institute said in the report.
