Corona in Germany: Spahn celebrates vaccination success on Twitter – Lauterbach appeals to the Stiko

The corona incidence has been falling for weeks, the number of people vaccinated. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported a single-digit value on Monday (June 28). But concerns about the Delta variant are growing. The news ticker.

  • The corona pandemic * in Germany is flattening out further. According to the RKI, the 7-day incidence drops to 5.6.
  • Because of the Delta variant *, Lauterbach is asking the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) to reconsider the recommendation for corona vaccinations for children (see first report) .
  • The number of people vaccinated in Germany continues to rise (see update from June 28, 11.50 a.m.) .
  • This news ticker is continuously updated.

Update from June 28, 1:10 p.m.: The corona virus still determines the lives of many people around the world, because although the number of infections is falling in many places, experts urge caution. In Germany, the incidence, which is important for many experts and politicians, has been falling for weeks. According to the RKI, around every tenth district in Germany has not recorded a single corona case in the past seven days.

According to this, the 7-day incidence in 40 of 412 districts and urban districts recorded was 0. In another 45 districts, there was only one case each. It should be noted that late registrations may occur.

In just under 50 districts, the incidence was even higher than 10, with the Lichtenfels district in Bavaria bringing up the rear with 46.4. In the federal states, the incidence is lowest in Saxony-Anhalt (1.9) and highest in Hamburg (10.0). The nationwide incidence – i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week – was given by the RKI on Monday at 5.6.

Corona in Germany: The number of vaccinated people continues to rise

Update from June 28, 11.50 a.m.: More than 35 percent of people in Germany are fully vaccinated against the corona virus. That comes from figures from the Robert Koch Institute on Monday. Around 44.6 million people (53.6 percent) have received at least one vaccination, 29.4 million people (35.4 percent) are fully vaccinated. 275,827 vaccine doses were administered on Sunday alone.

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) wrote on Twitter that the target set for June of having at least one in two people vaccinated once in Germany and at least one in three people completely vaccinated had been exceeded.

Update from June 28, 8.26 a.m .: The Delta variant continues to spread in Germany. “We will exceed the 50 percent mark in July,” says Prof. Carsten Watzl from the German Society for Immunology in the ZDF “Morgenmagazin”. However, the incidence is currently very low, everything is happening at a very low level.

Immunologist Watzl advised against shortening the vaccination interval at the moment. There is not enough vaccine yet. He advocates maintaining the recommended intervals and giving as many primary vaccinations as possible. “If we keep up the pace, we’ll be through in September,” emphasizes Watzl. With a larger amount of vaccine, this is of course the case earlier. “Until then, we must succeed in keeping the delta variant spread in Germany low.”

Corona in Germany: outbreaks in schools are to be expected in autumn

Watzl assumes that the delta variant will spread in autumn and that outbreaks and infections will occur in schools. These outbreaks can be controlled by vaccination or other ventilation concepts. His advice: Everyone should consider getting their children vaccinated.

For the elderly, there will likely be a booster vaccination in September. “We know that the vaccination does not work as well with the elderly as it does with the younger ones,” explains the immunologist Watzl. The elderly were also vaccinated quite early. He expects a third vaccination in autumn.

Fear of Delta variant: criticism of too lax corona entry regulations

Update from June 28, 7:31 a.m .: The fear of the Delta variant is growing. There is criticism of the current Corona entry regulation. A simple antigen test when entering from risk areas is currently sufficient to avoid quarantine.

“That is too uncertain,” criticized Hamburg’s mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) in the world . In his opinion, all non-vaccinated travelers returning from risk areas and high-incidence areas should go into quarantine, which should not be lifted until after five days if the PCR test * is negative. Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil also called for a double test for all returnees who are not fully vaccinated.

Bavaria’s Minister of Health Klaus Holetschek (CSU) demanded on Sunday that vacationers at the borders are closely checked for vaccination cards and negative corona tests. Berlin’s Prime Minister Müller called on ZDF yesterday evening to tighten controls on the tests. “These random samples, which are currently being implemented by the federal police, are not sufficient,” said Müller.

Corona in Germany: RKI reports 7-day incidence of 5.6

First report from June 28, 2021 : Berlin – The Robert Koch Institute * (RKI) reports 219 new corona infections (previous day: 538 new corona infections) and eight more deaths. The 7-day incidence * nationwide is 5.6, as can be seen from the RKI data on Monday morning (previous day: 5.7; previous week: 8.6).

Corona in Germany: First federal state again with an incidence of 10

Hamburg currently has a 7-day incidence of 10. According to the RKI, 35 new corona cases have been reported in the past 24 hours. All other federal states are below the 10 limit.

According to the current RKI situation report from Sunday evening, the 7-day R-value * is 0.82 (previous day: also 0.82). This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 82 more people. The R-value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides; if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.

  • According to the RKI, 90,762 people have died of or with Corona so far.

Lauterbach Stiko should reconsider recommendation for corona vaccination for children

The SPD health politician Karl Lauterbach has asked the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) to reconsider its restricted recommendation for corona vaccinations for children.

“In Great Britain there are already many children with Covid in the clinic. The Standing Vaccination Commission argues that Covid is harmless to children. In my opinion, this does not apply to the Delta variant *, ”Lauterbach told the Rheinische Post.

Stiko recommends the corona vaccination for children and adolescents from the age of twelve only with certain previous illnesses, such as obesity, diabetes and chronic lung diseases. However, all children and adolescents from the age of twelve can be vaccinated against corona after consulting a doctor.

“The information from Stiko always refers to old variants,” said Lauterbach. Infecting children with the Delta variant * is too risky. Continuing alternating classes is not a solution either.

Children and adolescents generally develop less severe forms of Covid-19 than older people. But they can also become infected and can pass the virus on. Their immunization thus helps contain the pandemic. (ml with material from AFP) * Merkur.de and Kreiszeitung.de are an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA

SPD general secretary Lars Klingbeil would also be happy if children and young people were also offered a vaccination *, as reported by the district newspaper *.
