Corona incidence in Italy: advantages for vaccinated people ensure vaccination date record

In Italy the incidence is increasing significantly. The government is reacting and tightening the corona rules. The result: requests for vaccination appointments rose by 200 percent in 24 hours.

Rome – Corona incidence in Italy has doubled in a week. On Friday, July 23, 2021, the number of new Covid-19 infections per 100,000 inhabitants jumped again within seven days and reached a value of 40.

Country: Italy
Residents: 60 million
Capital: Rome
President: Sergio Mattarella
Head of Government: Mario Draghi

For comparison: a week earlier, the incidence was 18.5. A total of 5057 new infections and 15 deaths in connection with Sars-CoV-2 were registered within one day.

The highly contagious delta variant of the coronavirus continues to spread and has now – just like in Germany – become the predominant Covid-19 variant.

Corona incidence in Italy is increasing: Government decides to “Green Pass” in the fight against Covid-19

So far in Italy, more than 53 percent of residents over twelve years of age have been fully vaccinated. In Germany it is currently 48.5 percent. In order to increase the vaccination rate in the country and to prevent a new lockdown, the Italian government around Mario Draghi has decided on a so-called “Green Pass” – a digital certificate that allows access to numerous activities.

From August 6th, you can only go inside a restaurant, bar or pub if you show your new digital vaccination certificate. This also applies to cinemas, museums, concerts, closed swimming pools, fitness studios and amusement parks.

In order to receive the “Green Passport”, you have to prove that you have received the first vaccination, have recovered from Corona for less than six months or have tested negative for Sars-CoV-2 within the past 48 hours.

New Corona vaccination certificate: Bookings of Covid-19 vaccination appointments are skyrocketing

The measure is highly controversial. One of the fiercest opponents of the new digital certificate is the head of the right-wing populist Lega Nord and former interior minister Matteo Salvini. On Friday, however, he revealed with a photo that he had already been vaccinated. Protest rallies against the Green Pass have now been announced across Italy for Saturday.

In Rome, new corona infections increased particularly after the European Football Championship.

The tightening of the entry rules is still having an effect: According to the Italian special commissioner for the corona pandemic, Francesco Figliuolo, vaccination bookings in the regions rose by up to 200 percent on Friday. In Lombardy alone, the region around Milan, the requests for vaccination appointments shot up from an average of 15,000 per day to 48,000, reports Corriere della Sera on its own website.

A similar phenomenon is also registered in other regions. Veneto recorded an increase from 7,000 to 20,000 inquiries.

Incidence in Italy is increasing: the country is not considered a corona risk area

Veneto, along with Lazio, Sardinia and Sicily, is one of the regions that currently report the highest incidence values in Italy. In Rome alone, the number of new infections has now quintupled. The reasons for this include the celebrations during and after the victory at the European Football Championship.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, Italy is currently not one of the corona risk areas – in contrast to Denmark, which will be considered a simple risk area from Sunday, July 25th. From Tuesday, July 27, however, Spain will be a high incidence area – as will the Netherlands. * Kreiszeitung.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
