Corona outbreak on Sylt: More than 1000 vacationers are threatened with quarantine

The popular holiday region of Sylt is also well visited during the corona pandemic.

Corona on Sylt – More than 1000 contact persons have already left

As reported by ntv, the district of North Friesland also identified around 1036 contact persons who were on the island as holidaymakers and most of them have already left. According to a spokesman for the district, their data will now be sent to the health authorities in their hometowns so that they can be contacted and, if necessary, sent to quarantine.

The health department on Sylt only had its hands full last week after it became known that a couple tested positive for the virus after vacationing on the island in early May. The couple had visited a total of four restaurants during their stay. The district was only informed of the infection after the two had left again. 300 people, mainly vacationers, had to be quarantined as a result. When asked by ntv, a district spokesman could not say whether they were also tested.

Corona pandemic on Sylt: Doubts about the opening concept for holiday regions

Sylt belongs to the district of North Friesland, which is part of a model project for the trial opening of tourism in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Gastronomy on Sylt has been able to open under strict conditions since May 1st – also in the interior. Since May 17, tourist trips have generally been possible again as part of the nationwide easing.

Since numerous infections have occurred despite the precautionary measures, the case raises great doubts about the opening concept for holiday regions. Numerous controls are also said to have found violations of the Corona regulations. Some of the waiters inside did not wear masks, the curfew was ignored and minimum distances were not observed.

Corona on Sylt – District Administrator expresses concern: “May not give a second Ischgl”

As soon as the infected couple became known, the district administrator of the district of North Friesland, Florian Lorenzen, reprimanded the restaurateurs on the island: “No second Ischgl may be built in North Friesland,” he said, according to ntv. In winter 2020, the Austrian ski resort of Ischgl became the starting point for the corona virus to spread across Europe. Authorities had made big mistakes in implementing the quarantine regulations. Lorenzen ordered a total of 20 restaurants to reduce the number of their guests by half.

According to the authorities, there are currently 25 people infected with corona and 210 people who are in quarantine on Sylt. (Anna Charlotte Groos) * fr.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
