Corona out of control: Spahn and Wieler hold press conference – angry speech from the RKI boss

First report from November 18, 4:35 p.m.: The coronavirus * has Germany firmly under control. While the situation continues to worsen, the federal and state governments are discussing tightening measures and new instruments to combat the pandemic. A first decision has apparently already been made. In addition, the new infection protection law of the traffic light parties was passed in the Bundestag.

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn * and President of the Robert Koch Institute Lothar Wieler will now hold a joint press conference on Friday (November 19) and comment on the current Corona situation in Germany. The press conference is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.

In the run-up to the conference, RKI boss Wieler attracted attention with a downright angry speech. He classified the situation in Germany with drastic words and at the same time set his sights on politics. “There is an emergency in our country,” said Wieler on Wednesday evening in a video conference with members of the Saxon state government. “If you don’t see that, you’re making a very big mistake,” it said.

In this context, the RKI boss warned of a bad Christmas party. “We will really have a very bad Christmas if we don’t take countermeasures now,” said Wieler with a view to the next few weeks. He chose a “very clear language”, admitted the RKI boss. “But after 21 months I simply can no longer bear the fact that it might not be recognized what I say, among other things, and so do many other colleagues.”

Corona escalation: RKI boss calls for less consideration for unvaccinated people – “Clubs and bars are corona hotspots”

Wieler made it clear that the current development with rapidly increasing corona numbers was foreseeable. “It was clear that with the vaccination quota we have, we’re going to have such high incidences.” He emphasized several times the need to increase the vaccination rate. At the same time, Wieler pleaded for less consideration for unvaccinated people.

“We shouldn’t give those who don’t get vaccinated the chance to avoid being vaccinated,” he said. “I think we should show more consideration for the sensible. How can we not always give the non-vaccinated the chance that, with testing, they will have exactly the same life as the vaccinated.”

In addition, the population has too many contacts, said Wieler, “because contact-restricting measures are no longer taking place”. These would have worked very well at the beginning of the pandemic. Wieler called clubs and bars Corona hotspots and suggested drastic measures. “From my point of view, they have to be closed.” (bb with material from dpa) * Merkur.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
