Corona vaccination speed in Germany: weakest weekend since February – Spahn reports

Almost half of Germans are now fully vaccinated against Corona. Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn tweeted this. But the pace is anything but brisk.

Berlin – “41.1 million (49.4 percent) Germans have full vaccination protection, 50.6 million (60.9 percent) are vaccinated at least once,” tweeted Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn on Monday morning. “Over 800,000 12 to 17 year olds (18.4 percent) have decided to have a vaccination so far.” And further: “Vaccine * is sufficient for all age groups – please get vaccinated!”

The vaccination rate in Germany is going in the right direction. However, according to some experts, the pace is far too slow. The incidence has been rising for weeks. Even on the otherwise rather weak Monday, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports almost 1,000 new corona infections.

So far, achieving herd immunity has been seen as a brake in the corona pandemic. “I do not think that it can be reached,” said the Saarbrücken pharmacy professor Thorsten Lehr * in an interview with the dpa. Because for herd immunity and thus a successful containment of the pandemic, 85 percent of Germans would have to be vaccinated or recovered – i.e. immune.

Vaccination speed in Germany: weakest vaccination weekend since February

But the vaccination rate in Germany is starting to stutter. At the weekend it was almost stalled. On Saturday there were 197,901 vaccine doses on Sunday 119,376 that found their way into an upper arm. That was the weakest vaccination weekend in five months. According to the vaccination dashboard, there were fewer last on 27./28. February. The busiest day of the past week – Wednesday (July 21) with 733,611 vaccine doses.

Corona vaccines end up on the trash

Astrazeneca’s corona vaccine has become a slow seller. A vaccination center in Bavaria poses problems. But even with the vaccines from Biontech and Moderna, it is no better. A paradoxical situation: at first the vaccine was scarce and hardly available – and now the vaccine is not available to the woman or the man.

Top vaccination rate in Germany

Bremen is in the lead when it comes to the vaccination quota for those who have been completely vaccinated. In the state, 56.9 percent of the population are now fully vaccinated. According to the data from the vaccination dashboard, Saxony comes in last with 45.6 percent. (ml) * Merkur.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA
