DHL acquires NTA to expand its presence in pharmaceutical logistics

DHL Supply Chain, one of the divisions of the German giant DHL focused on logistics solutions, announced the acquisition of NTA (New Transport Applications), a company specialized in logistics services for the pharmaceutical and health care sector with more than 20 years in the Mexican market. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.

“This acquisition continues to support DHL Supply Chain’s goals of providing added value to our customers in the Mexican market. It will significantly reinforce our presence in a strategic industry for our group, integrating the installed capacity, knowledge and team of experts in the health sector from NTA to DHL Supply Chain”, said Agustín Croche, president of DHL Supply Chain Mexico, quoted in a release.

“We are confident that this will provide significant growth opportunities for our customers and our people,” he added.

According to DHL, NTA makes more than 165,000 deliveries per year and distributes more than 43,000 tons per year with a team of almost 600 people. In addition, it has commercial agreements with all the airlines in Mexico to serve the different actors in the pharmaceutical chain, including hospitals, sales representatives, pharmacies and patients, among others.

“We hope to integrate our knowledge and experience in cold chain management with the resources and skills of the world leader in logistics for the benefit of our people and our customers,” said Rafael Figueroa, CEO of NTA, quoted in the document.

Mexico is the second largest pharmaceutical market in Latin America and shares a free trade agreement and border with the United States, which DHL considers to be the largest health care market in the world.

In August 2022, the National Chamber of the Pharmaceutical Industry of Mexico (CANIFARMA) forecast a 36% growth in pharmaceutical production in 2022, the first year of double-digit growth in the last decade. In addition, an increase in investments by international pharmaceutical companies is expected.

DHL Supply Chain currently employs more than 12,500 workers in its logistics operations in Mexico.
