Although planetary rings seem reserved for gas giants like Jupiter or Saturn , recent research has suggested that Mars may also have had planetary rings. Its small moons, Phobos and Deimos, rotate almost in the same plane as the red planet's equator , which means they probably formed at the same time as Mars.
However, one of the moons (Deimos) is tilted two degrees, which could be explained by an earlier moon that broke apart, producing planetary rings in the process.
Perseverance is on Mars but …
Although all eyes are now on the Perseverance rover and its journey across the red planet, the InSight mission, for example, is no less ambitious. He intends to carry out a complete check-up of the planet. Since it landed on Mars in 2018, the lander has not stopped conducting experiments that will allow us to measure its temperature, pulse, and reflections. All this will provide us with a rich and large amount of information about Mars, about the composition of similar planets in the inner solar system and, who knows, if also about the origin of exoplanets.
