Herford – The Astrazeneca corona vaccine often remains lying around in medical practices – but in order not to let the vaccine expire, a family doctor from East Westphalia has chosen an unusual route via eBay classifieds. “It would be madness to let the reliable and effective vaccine go to waste,” said general practitioner and cardiologist Peter Weitkamp from Kirchlengern to the dpa on Wednesday (05.05.2021).

For two days he offered Corona vaccination appointments with Astrazeneca to people over 60 years of age via eBay classifieds. He has 80 to 90 doses left. Starting next week, he will give his remaining Astrazeneca stocks to those who responded to his ad. The “Neue Westfälische” had previously reported on the doctor.
Weitkamp criticized the fact that the practices almost only received Astrazeneca, while the Biontech in demand goes to the Corona vaccination centers. From a medical point of view, he thinks it is wrong that the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) continues to recommend Astrazeneca only for people over 60 years of age. There are also numerous under 60-year-olds who want Astrazeneca. According to the federal-state resolution, these younger people then have to turn to the practices, in the vaccination centers Astrazenca is no longer injected to people under 60 years of age.

“There is enough vaccine from Astrazeneca available for the over 60-year-olds, instead they take away the vaccine from Biontech from the boys and accept that people will continue to be infected and become seriously ill. The rate for women was more than three times higher than that for men.
“The data show that older women also have an increased risk of cerebral vein thrombosis after administration of the Astrazeneca vaccine,” said Tobias Kurth, the director of the Institute for Public Health at Charité University Medicine, who was significantly involved in the evaluations.
