According to an analysis by the Twopchart application, the number of accounts currently registered on Twitter exceeds 465 million , and the “magic” number of 500 million users is expected to be reached by the end of February. The speed of growth is spectacular when you consider that it was only 8 months ago that the popular microblogging platform reached 300 million users, in May 2011.
It is currently estimated that 11 new Twitter accounts are created every second . On the other hand, it is estimated that more than 250 million messages or tweets are published on Twitter every day . However, it must be taken into account that not all users publish content. In fact, a large majority (around 3 out of 4 users) read and “listen” instead of talking, and there are many who instead of creating their own content share content published by others on the platform by making “retweets”. Of active users, 50% are currently online on a daily basis.
