Felipe II directs Spain in Sid Meier's Civilization VI

For 48 years, Felipe II was monarch of the colossal Spanish Empire of the 16th century. Also known as the most powerful European king of the time, Felipe II and his reign star in the next installment of the Civilization VI video game that will be available from October 21, 2016.

Felipe II was a standard bearer of the Catholic faith, using the Inquisition or the Tribunal of the Holy Office among other tools, for the promotion of the Catholic religion and the attempt to dismantle any other religious belief not directed by the Church. Thus, the “Holy League” would arrive against the Ottoman Empire or the confrontation against Protestantism in England.

His reign, plagued by religious conflicts, also succeeded in raising Catholicism as the main religion in France.

In Spain , Felipe II marked the beginning of a golden age for the country, flourishing music, literature or art, with traces as impressive as the construction of the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial in 1595.

From 2K and Firaxis Games they have stated that the legendary saga of strategy games Civilization has wanted to celebrate its 25th anniversary with this special edition of Civilization VI around the figure of Felipe II, “el Prudente”.
