Outdated electronics in the hospital in the Romanian city of Constanta could have caused the fire. Seven people died in the process.
Constanta – Seven people were killed in a major fire in a hospital in the Romanian Black Sea city of Constanta on Friday.
This was announced by the public prosecutor in Constanta and thus corrected earlier information from the civil protection, which had spoken of nine deaths. For reasons that are still unclear, the fire broke out in the intensive care unit, where Covid patients were also treated.
A total of 113 patients were in the hospital at the time of the accident, 10 of them in the intensive care unit. Media suspected that outdated electrical installations could have been the cause. The public prosecutor opened an investigation into alleged negligent homicide. Two similar hospital fires with fatalities had occurred in Romania in the past two years. dpa
