September 18 marks the first International Lunar Observation Night (InOMN), an international initiative that coincides with the first anniversary launch of NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO).
The Moon will be on the tenth day of its monthly cycle, so if the weather is good it will not be difficult to recognize the best known places in its geography even with simple binoculars. Professional and amateur astronomers, Astronomy Clubs, Planetariums, Science Centers and many astronomy enthusiasts worldwide will celebrate the Earth's natural satellite. If you want to join the "party", do not miss the lunar map that the promoters of the event have prepared (here in PDF) to make it much easier for us to locate the Sea of Tranquility (where an astronaut set foot for the first time on the Moon), the Sea of Rain ( Mare Imbrium ) or the easily recognizable Crater of Tycho .
