She was one of the great film divas of the 20th century. At the age of 94, Gina Lollobrigida is now in a bitter argument. In a TV interview, the Italian was now emotional.
Rome – The Italian film diva Gina Lollobrigida is fighting for her dignity in an internal family guardianship dispute. “I don’t deserve to be humiliated like that,” said the 94-year-old in an emotional TV interview on Sunday.
The former actress (“The Hunchback of Notre Dame”) and artist was assigned a guardian by the court on the initiative of her son, without whom she is not allowed to make any financial decisions.
“I didn’t do anything bad,” she said. “At my age, I should have a little peace. But I don’t have that. I am tired. I should be allowed to die in peace. “
Along with Sophia Loren and Claudia Cardinale, Lollobrigida is one of the three great film icons of Italy. In the 50s and 60s, the Roman was considered the most beautiful woman in the world.
She shot with stars like Anthony Quinn, Humphrey Bogart, Marcello Mastroianni and Rock Hudson, and her world successes include films like “Fanfan, der Hussar” and “Die Schönen der Nacht”. After her film career, she was successful as a photographer and sculptor.
Most recently, however, Lollobrigida hit the headlines primarily because of a legal battle over her state of mind. In October, the Italian Supreme Court upheld a ruling that a guardian should watch over the elderly woman’s assets. Lollobrigida suspects a plot by her son Milco and others to get the inheritance.
“There is only one goal and that is not the well-being of Gina Lollobrigida, but her fortune,” said her new lawyer Antonio Ingroia, a former anti-Mafia prosecutor, on the popular TV show “Domenica In” of the public legal rai.
His client deserves “more respect from all Italians, but above all from Italian institutions, than in recent years”.
A central figure in the argument of Lollobrigida’s son is Andrea Piazzola, a man in his early 30s who is accused of manipulating the diva. Piazzola is her assistant, on the TV show the former actress described him as “my great luck”. He was “like a son to me, a good person”. She no longer wants to see her biological son or grandson.
They made common cause with a suspected Spanish marriage swindler who tried to trick Lollobrigida years ago, she claimed. “Crazy!” Scolded the 94-year-old.
She hardly has any strength left to fight, said Lollobrigida, even if she was implored in the interview by the star presenter Mara Venier, who kneeled in front of her. “I have the right to live in peace, but also to die in peace,” said Lollobrigida with tears. dpa
