The police are investigating numerous cases of forged vaccination documents. A report is now trying to clarify why people buy the wrong vaccination certificate.
Leipzig – At least since the 2G rule, vaccinated people have had clear advantages over unvaccinated people. But instead of taking this as an opportunity to get vaccinated against the dangerous coronavirus, more and more people are buying fake vaccination cards. According to a police report, the authorities are currently investigating at least 2000 cases of illegal vaccination documents across Germany. The question arises: is it that easy to get a fake passport?
The new episode of the MDR report series “exactly”, which can be seen in the ARD media library, among other things, is dedicated to these and other questions. The reporters succeeded in interviewing a professional forger who, according to the police report, describes himself as a “helper for the unvaccinated”. He doesn’t have a guilty conscience because of his illegal activities – on the contrary: He seems to be of the opinion that he is doing good by selling forged vaccination certificates.

The forged passports can usually hardly be distinguished from the originals, if at all. It is therefore easy to have the yellow booklet digitized in a pharmacy in order to then receive a vaccination certificate for the mobile phone. With this, people with a forged passport can then visit restaurants, shops and events without being actually vaccinated against Covid-19. In doing so, they not only expose themselves to a high risk of infection, but also those around them.
The reporters Marc Zimmer and Anton Zirk therefore try in their report “exactly” to clarify why such an important document seems so prone to forgery. They also get to the bottom of the motivation of those people who buy a fake passport. They often get hold of the illegal document through certain forums or chat groups. In addition to visiting restaurants and shops, people with a fake vaccination certificate are also able to go on vacation without Corona requirements: If a digital vaccination card can be presented, there is no longer any need to test or quarantine after a trip.
