According to initial investigations, the men were aged 18, 34 and 61 and came from Central Franconia, said a police spokesman on Monday. They were Germans. He gave no information on the exact origin and possible family relationships. An autopsy should confirm the identities, as the police and prosecutor announced.
Since the morning, experts have been back at the scene of the accident in Buchen in the Neckar-Odenwald district, which is close to the border with Hesse and Bavaria. The Robinson R44 helicopter crashed in a forest early on Sunday afternoon. According to the information, it started in Herzogenaurach in Central Franconia and belonged to the 61-year-old. Who was flown still has to be determined.
“Search, securing evidence and appraisal are in the foreground,” said the spokesman. There is no time pressure. “Every screw in the foliage has to be found,” explained the spokesman. “The more pieces of the puzzle you have, the more finished the picture will be.” This is necessary in order to be able to determine the cause of the accident.
Numerous people were reportedly on site. The Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) sent more specialists, said the spokesman. The night before, the emergency services had secured traces by 11 p.m. and collected wreckage that had been scattered far across the site. The three bodies were also recovered on Sunday.
