Lake Constance: Angler fishes a 2.20-meter colossus and is badly attacked – "Should be ashamed of you"

The fisherman Franz Blum has made a record-breaking catch in Lake Constance. He pulled a catfish over two meters long from the water. And is now being attacked.

  • A fisherman made a spectacular catch on Lake Constance.
  • He fished a eight-foot- long catfish .
  • He is now hostile to this, but also showered with respect.

Update from August 1, 2020: More than 100 comments have so far accumulated under Franz Blum’s Facebook post. “Crazy catch, are there any more photos or videos ? It really belongs on television, ”writes a user who claims to work for a TV broadcaster. And is disappointed by Blum: “Unfortunately I didn’t make a video! Just a quick photo with my daughter. Had to process it quickly, not that the meat quality suffers! “

Franz Blum is also hostile: “Also make videos of the murder? He only had one life, you should be ashamed of yourself. “His reaction is clear:” I would like to ask you to read everything carefully before you leave such clever comments! There is no video! The duck that the eating machine had in its stomach also had only one life! And yes, I am proud to be able to be a professional fisherman. It is certainly difficult for laypeople to understand, but the feeding pressure from these giants is enormous and the population in Lake Constance is anything but threatened. “

Others also attack the fisherman . “Such a caustic trophy hunter , catfish of this size don’t taste particularly good, too old, and yes the catfish eats a lot of other fish, but the cormorant damages the fish population a thousand times more,” writes one user. This criticism is a bit more cautious: “But let’s be honest, a photo would have been enough … isn’t it ?! Maybe measure max., But then from there back into the lake. Because the catfish has already survived so many years and then something. Just sad. And apart from that, it no longer tastes good anyway, at such an age. So not thought through action. “

Many anglers and Facebook users, on the other hand, simply show Franz Blum respect: “Petri Heil! ….. A clean giant device” and “Great catch; congratulations !!”, it says in the comments. So the mighty catch polarizes mightily.

2.20 meters long: Angler catches an incredible amount in Lake Constance – but the sensation is different

Our first report from July 29, 2020: Bregenz / Lake Constance – “Even the professional fisherman looks really big out of the laundry,” commented angler Franz Blum on his amazing catch from Lake Constance. He had just pulled a 2.20 meter long catfish out of the water, but he can’t hide his enthusiasm for it.

Bregenz: Lake Constance anglers caught even bigger fish last year

It is not the first time that Blum has caught a giant fish: The real sensation was already a year ago, as it turned out in the last few days. In 2019 he even caught a 2.70 meter long catfish and presented it – like this time – on his Facebook page . So far he had assumed that it was only 2.45 meters long, after an expert’s assessment it now turned out that the fish from then was significantly longer.

This just barely missed the world record for the largest catfish ever caught. A Frenchman holds the record at 2.74 meters *. In an interview with vol.at, Blum was asked about his recipe for success : “I would like to say it’s ability. But that such a big fish goes into our nets is simply lucky, ”said the fisherman.

Lake Constance: Catfish have no natural enemies: “You don’t do anything bad there”

The 2.70 monster is probably the largest fish ever caught in Lake Constance. The specialist himself assumes that even larger catfish will be caught in the future, because they are predators , never stop growing and have no natural enemies in Europe’s third largest lake. Scientists estimate that they can live up to 80 years.

The latest 2.20 catch is already being offered as filet backs for consumption in Blum’s restaurant “Fränzle”. The rest of the fish is smoked. The record fish from 2019 now adorns the interior of the restaurant. Blum has to face criticism again and again for his catch. The fisherman replies: “You don’t do anything bad, but rather something good for the lake. Such a giant catfish exerts enormous feeding pressure on the rest of the animal world ”. It will be interesting to see what will be pulled from the lake next in Bregenz.

In the Elbe, too, an angler pulled a giant catfish out of the water * – it is also at home in rivers. While diving in the Westphalian river Lippe, two laypeople came across a previously undiscovered boat wreck *. The find provides researchers with information about the Middle Ages. (epp)

NASA in the US has discovered a record-breaking asteroid. This raced secretly from the sun towards earth. * tz.de is part of the Ippen editorial network.
