LAST MINUTE: The use of face masks will no longer be mandatory on Mexican airline flights

The Federal Civil Aviation Agency ( AFAC ) reported that the use of face masks at airports and during flights will no longer be mandatory as of today, due to the size of the waiting rooms and the aircraft filtration system.

"As of this date, and until the health authorities modify the health protocols inherent in the use of face masks, it is reported that for airport facilities and in aircraft passenger cabins, the use of face masks will not be mandatory" , reported the agency in a statement.

However, the AFAC instructed airlines and airports to "recommend" the use of face masks in people or groups of users with symptoms related to COVID-19.

The airlines confirmed that the use of the mask will be optional for passengers and crews. "As of today, the use of face masks will be optional, in accordance with the latest update notified by AFAC. Both passengers and crew will have the option to do without it," Aeroméxico reported through its Twitter account.

Similarly, Volaris pointed out on its social networks that "the use of face masks becomes optional on flights, this applies to both staff and passengers."
