To the delight of many German tourists, the federal government will remove popular countries and areas from the Corona risk list on Sunday: the Alps in western Austria as well as Greek islands and Croatian seaside resorts.
Berlin (dpa) – All of Austria and numerous other countries and regions have no longer been considered corona risk areas since Sunday. The federal government also removed the remaining two Austrian federal states Tyrol and Vorarlberg, popular travel destinations for Germans, from the risk list, as well as parts of Greece, Croatia and Switzerland.
The islands of Madeira in Portugal and Cyprus as well as twelve other countries in the Balkans, Eastern Europe, Asia and North America are no longer considered risk areas after the falling number of corona infections, including the USA and Canada.
Anyone coming to Germany from one of these areas by land will no longer have to observe any entry restrictions due to Corona in the future. Air passengers still have to show a negative test.
However, the rules of other countries for entry from Germany remain unaffected. Anyone entering Austria from Germany, for example, must still be able to show a negative corona test. This does not apply to anyone who can prove a vaccination or who has already recovered from Corona. In the USA and Canada, for example, there is still an entry ban for Germans who do not live there.
However, some of the changes to the corona risk list that came into force on Sunday also point in the other direction: The Portuguese capital Lisbon and the Spanish exclave Ceuta in North Africa are again considered corona risk areas.
In Croatia, only two inland regions have been on the risk list since Sunday, all holiday areas on the Adriatic coast are “risk-free”. In Greece, the Peloponnese and the islands of the northern Aegean – including Lesbos and Samos, among others – are removed from the risk list. In addition, the following countries are no longer risk areas as of Sunday: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia, Kosovo, Lebanon, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia and Ukraine. There are also two regions in Norway.
For all of these countries and regions, the Federal Foreign Office does not receive a travel warning. As of July 1, the federal government will no longer generally advise against tourist trips abroad. For EU countries, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, which are no longer classified as risk areas, the Federal Foreign Office’s travel advice will only “ask for particular caution” in future. The summer holidays in the first federal states will start in a week.
The entry restrictions are also being relaxed for Georgia, Qatar and Mexico. These three countries are downgraded from high incidence to risk areas. This eliminates the general obligation to quarantine for five to ten days when entering Germany. Those who have a negative test no longer have to isolate themselves. Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Namibia and Mongolia, on the other hand, were upgraded to high incidence areas with the changes on Sunday with a quarantine requirement when entering Germany.
Countries in which the number of new infections per 100,000 population within one week (seven-day incidence) is over 200 are generally classified as high-incidence areas. Countries with an incidence over 50 are considered risk areas.
