Not every year is an anniversary as special as the centenary . Despite the delicate situation, this 2020 will also be remembered at Mazda as the calendar that marked a before and after. We have already told you about its history and we have even reviewed moments of joy, remembering the records that shine above the showcase of the Japanese firm. To commemorate those golden days, the firm has launched the special 100th Anniversary edition for its entire range. This version is inspired by the Mazda R360 Coupe , the first four-wheel passenger car that the brand presented in 1960. We can quickly identify them by the white color of their body, combined with the burgundy of the roof or the canvas in the case of the MX- 5 convertible.
Not everything has been a bed of roses, far from it. Mazda had to face one of the toughest demons created by man: the atomic bombs. The city of Hiroshima, witnessing its birth as an automobile manufacturer in the 1920s, was an example of self-improvement. A mantra that is also part of the brand and that exemplifies accepting each challenge, under the responsibility of complying with the Mukainada spirit. In the models of the 100th Anniversary special series, you can feel and witness that arduous journey, full of countercurrent launches such as that of the RX-7’s rotary engine .
The Mazda R360 Coupé is not the first vehicle created by the firm but it is the first passenger car. Before that came the Mazda Go, a three-wheeled model that was key in rebuilding the city of Hiroshima. Years later, this Kei Car was unstoppable success in the Japanese market thanks to its attractive design and knockdown price . The minicar served to place Mazda on the scene based on technological innovations such as the automatic transmission and the four-stroke engine, something unheard of at the time. Since then, the obsession of the firm has been to convey emotions and fun at the wheel, even ahead of more commercial aspects. An example of this is the new Mazda MX-30, the firm’s first 100% electric model.
