He was once considered the favorite of the British: Prince Harry. He is now a long way from that. In a recent poll, the popularity of him and his wife Meghan has dropped to a record low.
London – The British are not good at talking to Prince Harry * and his wife Meghan Markle * at the moment. At least if you can believe a recent poll. Only one member of the Royals has even worse values than the two – namely the royal problem child par excellence: Prince Andrew.
Since the much-discussed interview with US talk legend Oprah Winfrey *, Harry and Meghan’s popularity ratings have fallen further and further. In the period from April 21-22, 1730 British people were asked about the royals by the polling institute YouGov. And they don’t leave a good hair on the couple.
Meghan and Harry: After a controversial TV interview, approval continues to decline
Only 43 percent see Prince Harry in a good light (most recently 45 percent), while 49 percent are now negative (previously 48 percent). What a case for the former favorite of the British. His pregnant wife Meghan * got it even more clearly. A whopping 61 percent have a negative opinion of her (most recently 58 percent). After all, 29 percent still see them as positive (previously 31 percent).
For comparison: Harry’s brother William was even able to increase his popularity ratings in the current survey. It climbed from a 76 percent positive rating to 80 percent. This means that he is only outbid by one person from the royal family – Queen Elizabeth II herself. After she last had to cope with the death of her husband Philip, her approval rose from 80 to 85 percent.
Royals survey in the UK: Meghan and Harry’s popularity is falling – only one less popular
On April 17, the Queen’s 99-year-old husband was buried. On this occasion, Prince Harry had also traveled home – without Meghan. The pregnant woman waived the flight to England on the advice of her doctors. Their joint TV interview caused a sensation, especially as Meghan brought up racist allegations against the royal family. Even interviewer Oprah Winfrey was surprised.
After the Megxit *, Harry has nothing to do with the succession to the throne. The two favorites to succeed the Queen are Prince Charles and Prince William. The British questioned see it that way too. 37 percent would like Prince Charles as the new head of state, 34 percent favor his son William. However, if they have their way, a change on the British throne could happily continue. Almost two thirds want the Queen to be head of state until she dies.
